POSTPONED: 2020 AGM – Thursday 19 March (6-8pm) – The Magnet Centre, St Leonards, TN37 6GL

Dear supporter,

Due to current events we’ve taken the decision to postpone the forthcoming Neighbourhood watch AGM.

The board feel it is more important to follow government advice right now, despite this being a time when NW members may be of great service to their local communities.

To this end we have set up a Facebook community support group page and it would be great if you could join and share.

Hastings & St Leonards COVID-19 support group

A new meeting date will be arranged as soon as the current situation has stabilised.

Regards,

John Bownas

At the meeting we have a guest speaker, Sharon Marchesani, from the office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, talking about the possibiliity of obtaining a significant amount of crime prevention funding for parts of the St Leonards area and our Local Policing Inspector and the Hastings Borough Council Community Safety Manager will update us on their key issues and actions.

We have also invited a number of young people to give a short presentation on how they feel Neighbourhood Watch can be made more relevant to people under the age of 25, so we would encourage members to bring along younger friends or relatives to take part in this discussion.

There will then be a question and answer session and discussion of issues and opportunities for NHW to contribute to community safety and general community cohesion.

We will also have to go through the formal business of electing the committee, but that should be very brief. Graham will be stepping down as chair, but we have a volunteer, John Bownas, to take his place. However, if anyone else is interested in becoming chair or joining the committee, please let us know (chair@haslnw.uk).

John manages both the Hastings Business Improvement District and the Hastings Area Business Crime Reduction Partnership (which is responsible for the Shopwatch and Barwatch schemes). He is also shortly to become the local Hastings lead for Crimestoppers and he has recently helped us by creating a new website – www.haslnw.uk.
